THE CJR and Guardian newspapers have highlighted the importance of language in the communication of climate change.
The Guardian’s editor-in-chief, Katharine Viner says: “The phrase ‘climate change’, for example, sounds rather passive and gentle when what scientists are talking about is a catastrophe for humanity.”
Their recommendations for language are below and we strongly suggest using them.
Instead of Climate Change Say:
Climate Emergency, Climate Crisis, Climate Breakdown.
Instead of Global Warming say:
Global Heating
Wildlife
